Professional Journey
Hello, my name is Thomas Harrigan, and I am a recent graduate of the Honours Bachelor of Counselling Psychology (HBCP) program at Georgian College. Throughout my academic and professional experience, I developed a strong interest in mental health, addiction, personal growth, and counselling approaches focused on creating a respectful and supportive environment for individuals seeking help.
My background includes experience working within addiction and recovery settings, where I supported individuals navigating substance use, mental health challenges, and major life transitions. I have also facilitated men’s groups and Indigenous sharing circles, and I carry a strong passion for Native hand drumming, singing, and spending time on the land.
My approach combines counselling-based techniques developed throughout my education with Indigenous-informed perspectives, lived experience, and a genuine commitment to helping individuals feel heard, understood, and supported. I believe healing and personal growth look different for everyone, and I aim to provide a space where clients can openly explore challenges, emotions, and self-awareness at their own pace.
My passion for nature and the outdoors also plays an important role in how I view healing and personal well-being. The Indigenous teachings I have learned throughout my life continue to influence the way I approach healing, connection, and understanding people on a deeper level. I believe healing can involve reconnecting with oneself and community through a collaborative approach while acknowledging difficult emotions in a safe and confidential environment when trust is established.
In September 2026, I will be continuing my education through the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) program at Yorkville University as part of my ongoing commitment to professional growth within the counselling and mental health field.
Healing Begins Through Genuine Human Connection: Offering Virtual Counselling Through Western and Indigenous Perspectives
The idea for creating this website came from a long-standing passion for psychology and a deep curiosity about why people think and behave the way they do, which has been a major part of my life for over a decade. My early educational journey was not always easy, and a lot of my interest in mental health came through personal experiences and overcoming challenges. As time went on, that interest continued to grow into a genuine passion for counselling and supporting people in a real and authentic way. Alongside my educational journey, I also carry Indigenous knowledge and teachings that I have learned throughout the years, which continues to guide me towards living a good life.
